As already mentioned in the previous page, we will continue the exercises, working on groups of three strings. In this case you have to pay a lot of attention to the fact that the picking must be very fluid on the strings. In fact, a common error is to pass from one string to another during the sweep using a jump with the same movement.
This involves a considerable waste of time during the execution, resulting in lost coordination of the right hand.
Instead you need to slide the pick over the interested strings, both for up and down. Prepare to spend a lot of time practicing this procedure, seeing it is the only one that allows you to sweep pick a series of homogeneous notes. It is eventually possible to use the jump system from string to string when you want to get a certain sound, such as those typical of arpeggios on chords. Ex. #3 Lets look at the exercise, where we will play three notes on three adjacent strings, starting from the first, second and third strings. The same rules apply, from the rhythmic division to metronome time, initially slow, coordinating with the picking of the strings. The fingers of the left hand are set up as follows: ring finger (third string), middle finger (second string) and index finger (first string), for the entire exercise.
Ex. #4 Use the method just seen on the other strings: fourth, third and second, fifth, fourth and third, sixth, fifth and fourth. We must study all the strings because each of the strings has a different resistance to the pick. The thickness changes from string to string, therefore you should get used to the various reactions of the strings. Ex. #5 While the previous exercise sequence was ring finger (third string), middle (second) and index (first), we will now perform almost the opposite movement, using the index (third string), middle (second) and ring finger (first). Working backwards can cause some problems: don't worry, this is completely normal. As usual I recommend good rhythmic control for the speed of execution.
Ex. #6
Use the method just seen to the other groups of strings: second, third and fourth, Ex. #7 Lets work on four strings. All the lessons learned up to now should obviously be considered. Be aware for the fact that the right hand develops a longer picking. The fingers of the left hand that develop the notes are indicated. Remember to play transporting the fingerings position for position.
Ex. #8 Similar to that seen above, invert the fingers in order to play starting with the index finger. The series is rather logical.
Ex. #9 Use the system just seen on the other two sets of four strings: second, third and fourth, third, fourth and fifth, fourth, fifth and sixth. Before going to the next exercises, I recommend that you work for a few days on these exercises seen above, because they will allow you to form a good starting base for future exercises, which are more complicated and technical.
